Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary

Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary (Area 158 sq km ) is located at the Southern part of Darjeeling District, on the West bank River Tista. Due to diversity of elevation and vegetation, the faunal species found in the sanctuary is varied. Larger animals like Elephant, Gaur, Barking Deer,Spotted Deer, Wild boar, Leopard and other wild cats are found all over the sanctuary. The region is reputed to posses the richest variety of birds in the country. Sukna is the main entry point of the sanctuary.
